Our Mission
Applied Research in Environmental Sciences Nonprofit, Inc. (ARIES) is an Internal Revenue Service 501(c)(3) organization incorporated May 19, 2008 as a nonprofit in Illinois with the following official mission statement:
Provide qualitative and quantitative integrated research and public education that facilitates and encourages collaboration among diverse public and private entities to develop safer communities, healthier environments, and ecologically sound management of critical natural and historical resources.

Our comprehensive suite of professional services caters to a diverse clientele, ranging from communities, industry, government, and universities.
Areas of Expertise
Apply multiple areas of expertise including earth science, geochemistry, public health, disaster risk reduction and management, oceanography, archaeology, cultural sites and resources, museums, anthropology, history, archival research, historical preservation of collections (conservation and curation), landscapes and buildings, living history interpretations, demonstrations, and exhibits.
Continuous Support
Facilitate input of local knowledge to inform and guide research design in a convergent research team and conduct routine assessments by the team and the community for modifications and improvements.
Proposal and Project Collaboration
Collaborate with governmental jurisdictions and agencies, nonprofits, industry, and academia to design proposals and projects using a convergent, applied research approach that draws on a team of research associates of diverse expertise, including community input of knowledge and ideas.
Consulting
Research associates of diverse expertise, convergent research, applied research for social benefits to include rightsholders in a whole community of multiple voices
Site Specific Research
Tailor research to fit the uniqueness of each community through factoring in historical landscapes and buildings, available archival information, peer-reviewed archaeological findings, cultural sites, local resources, and community input through the application of environmental and historical ecology approaches.
Project Management and Coordination
Develop contracts, budgets, timelines, team design, personnel selection, strategic plans, statements of work, deliverables, routine reports, published professional articles and presentations, archive contribution, and pilot projects using recognized best practices and innovative approaces; supervise multiple tasks and personnel.
Community Networking, Education, and Engagement
Collaborate with governments, professional practitioners, community organizations, and citizen scientists, on local and regional scales, to develop and implement public awareness programs, monitor training, workshops, and conference sessions.
